I think cabin fever is setting in. Every few days I get an itching to be outside, even if the air temperatures are well below freezing.

So far this winter I have spent a lot of time combing the Cape's beaches, recording aerial footage that I will be using in the first episode of My Fishing Cape Cod TV, which airs on February 26th. Some of these excursions have brought me deep into the Cape's estuaries which got me thinking - could holdover striped bass be present?

In my experience, each winter is different with regards to holdover stripers. One winter will produce many bass while the next produces none. They are a fickle species when they choose to be.

Last week I gave in to my curiosity and decided to try for a winter holdover on an unusually sunny and pleasant January morning. What I would end up finding proved to be extremely interesting...
