My Fishing Cape Cod and Cape Cod Salties member Ken Whiting has generously agreed to carve us one of his incredible handmade striped bass wood carvings to use as a grand prize for this year's season-long fishing derby.
I first met Ken several years ago when I was invited to speak at one of the Salties monthly meetings. However I only recently discovered Ken's amazing wildlife wood carvings.
Ken first began carving birds and fish in 1980, and in 1986 he carved four Canada Geese in flight for L.L.Bean.

Recently Ken has carved Yellowfin tuna and White marlin...
Mako shark...
Summer flounder...
Swordfish...
Wahoo...
Trout...
A variety of different birds...
Turtles...
And of course striped bass!
In fact Ken is capable of carving just about anything, including dogs! One of our members actually just ordered a handmade wood carving of his labrador retriever as a gift for his wife.
For our 2018 My Fishing Cape Cod Derby, Ken has generously agreed to do a 24 inch wood carving of a striped bass. The carving will be awarded to the overall largest striped bass submitted to the derby.
The derby begins on May 1 and ends at 11:59pm on October 31. In addition to Ken's striped bass carving, there will be other prizes awarded to winners of our canal, surf and boat/kayak categories.
