I am really looking forward to spring.
This past week's glimmer of mild weather really got my juices flowing. I feel as if we are almost through winter, and at any moment spring will descend upon us.
Recently I felt an urge to give holdover striped bass another go.
For whatever reason, instead of migrating south with the majority of the population, some stripers decide to stay on Cape Cod during the winter. If you are lucky you can find a few of these fish nestled down in various nooks and crannies throughout the Cape & Islands.
At this time of the year a couple warm days can spark holdover striped bass activity. Occasionally the fish will break the surface, feeding as if it was midsummer. This does not happen often, yet I have witnessed it before.
Cape Cod Holdover Striped Bass Fishing Report
I thought about aggressive stripers as I meandered down a skinny dirt path, that led me deep into one of the Cape's estuaries. I noticed the warmth and sun as I stepped out into the open.
I will happily say that it felt like spring!
The next step was to find a holdover striped bass or two, and get the rod bent for the first time this season.
