Terry Green's Grandson CJ Reels in a Big One
Terry Green had an epic few hours out of Scituate, finally snagging some smaller mackerel to fish between Scituate Harbor and the North River. They had some great hits and managed to land a sweet 28” striper that his grandson CJ reeled in all by himself. CJ is only 7 years old and already becoming quite the little fishing fanatic!
Later, Terry Green went out again with CJ and their fishing buddy Steve Parker. "We got some huge mackerel just outside Scituate Harbor," Terry reported, "so we headed over to the area between Can 21 and Minot Lighthouse. Although the weather forecast was iffy, we had pretty calm waters."
Within about 15 minutes, they hooked a healthy 43” beast.
"After a clean release, we were feeling good about our prospects with 8 more mackerel in the tank," Terry Green shared. Unfortunately, as the tide changed, the action slowed down. Still, it was an awesome day on the water with no skunk!

Kitt Sawitsky's Solid Action around Ptown
"We ran up from Buzzards on Sunday and fished around Ptown both inside and outside towards the SE corner," Kitt shared. "We found macs around the CC buoy but they were very picky."
Despite this, they managed to get two strings and some whiting off the bottom. Fishing the rising tide after 12 PM, they found solid action away from the crowded spots, catching around 12 fish ranging from 27-36”, mostly slot size or above.
"Fish preferred whiting over macs but would hit both," Kitt said. "One whiting caught 3 bass, even when it was mostly/entirely dead and fished whole with a hook through the top jaw like a stick bait without the sticks."
The day ended with some huge blues off Race Point, including one monster that got away. "I suspect the blues may be about to move in and shut things down for bass."

John Steele's Last-Minute Catch
On July 10th John Steele, who's been a member of My Fishing Cape Cod since 2020, reported, "There were pogies all over Cape Cod Bay near Plymouth yesterday."
Despite this, he got skunked on stripers until he was just about to leave when he pulled up a 38" on a pogie.
He also spotted what he believed was a minke whale circling one of the pogie schools for about half an hour, which he and his wife loved seeing.

Charlie Lewis's Big Surprise
Charlie Lewis shared that on July 14th they had caught a few smaller fish when "out of nowhere this big 46” girl ate a small piece of mackerel chunk and took us for a sleigh ride!"
They were able to revive and release the fish safely. It was a pleasant surprise for the morning to say the least!

James Durso's Dense Fog Adventure
On July 8th James Durso launched from Plymouth and encountered some seriously dense fog. "No mackerel at the usual sites and no pogies all the way to just south of White Horse," he noted.
James saw some action from stripers at the surface and trolled with a weighted paddle tail and thawed out pogies.
"Pogies were bit in half, possibly by bluefish," he said. "Stripers were caught on paddle tail." The water was flat, and it turned out to be a sweet day after the fog lifted.
Jim Richardson's Foggy Morning Success
On July 7th Jim Richardson battled through the fog and headed out to Monomoy with his wife and son. Despite the poor visibility, they had a solid topwater bite for close to two hours, managing several over-slot bass.
"Need to tighten down the screws in the net after this guy!" Jim exclaimed.

In Conclusion
These are just a few of the many stories and catches from this past week. In fact there's been dozens of great catches recently, from early season bonito to freshwater laregmouths and everything in between. I'd be here all day long if I was to try to include them all in one blog post!
It’s clear that the Cape Cod fishing season is in full swing and busy as ever. To all the members, keep sharing your adventures and tips on the forum. Myself and many others appreciate it big time.
