My First Striper Of The Year

Last week I was fortunate to finally find a school of striped bass, huddled up in the backwaters of an estuary here on Cape Cod.

You can read the full written report of that adventure by clicking here.

I also captured the entire night on video, and in this post I want to share the video with you, in case you have not seen it yet.

  • Ryan, I was counting on you to start off the season early! Nice going! My thoughts are it will be an early start and the estuaries should be hot soon. I just loaded up my bag and I’m chomping to start.
As for Professor Pete’s comments, your membership fee is well worth it. What I have learned as a member has contributed to my fishing success a lot more than any monthly periodical.
Keep it coming, I still have tons to learn .

    • I think it will be an early start too. Fish in the Canal by May 1st perhaps? I think there is a real good chance.

I am very happy you are finding MFCC to be a good value. We have lots more to come in 2016 too. Many new additions in the pipeline.

Good luck when you head out!

    • Right now I really don’t know for sure. I have not seen the stomach contents of these fish because I released them all, and I did not seen any schools of bait swimming around.

However I bet they are eating a cornucopia of different baits. In this area there are all sorts of crustaceans, small fish and worms. Who knows what else could be crawling around in the mud.

I plan on heading back out there sometime this week and will keep my eyes peeled.

  • Ryan,
You’re obviously a very good fisherman, traveler and writer, and I enjoy the “teaser” emails but as a frugal 58-year-old I just can’t see parting with $120/year to be a subscriber when printed fishing magazines are $10-30/year. Maybe it’s just me, but as a marketer I think you’d generate more revenue if you dropped the price by 50%, even if for a limited time to see how it works out. Your costs are fixed regardless of how many subscribers you have, so it’s not like it’s costing you much to add each additional subscriber. Just my two cents. Also, as a grammarian, it’s incorrect to say “Over the next few weeks, myself and the My Fishing Cape Cod community, will keep you updated with the latest fishing reports.” “Myself” is an object word not a subject word. I can send a letter to “myself” but “myself” can’t send a letter to anyone. The correct sentence would be: “Over the next few weeks, I and the My Fishing Cape Cod community (no comma) will keep you updated with the latest fishing reports.” or “Over the next few weeks, the My Fishing Cape Cod community and I (no comma) will keep you updated with the latest fishing reports.” I know I’m being picky but if you want to write professionally you have to follow the rules. Let me know if you ever want something proofread or edited! Hope to meet you someday.

    • Hi Pete! I am doing the best job I can with MFCC 🙂 What we offer here is quite different than what is possible via a magazine, hence the different pricing.

Thanks for providing your insight and I will definitely let you know if I would like some help proofreading. Perhaps we can work out a proof reading agreement where you check my emails in exchange for a discounted MFCC membership?

Keep the ideas coming! I appreciate it.

  • Hi Ryan, saw you at the Rhode Island show this past Saturday, you were talking to a rep so I did not come over and introduce myself. I just started fishing the Cape basically from the spring of 2015 as that is when I got my new Mako 212 Center Console. I was thinking of joining in hopes of trying to find a fishing parter to go on my boat with me this year for two reasons. Safety is one and having someone else just speeds the learning process up a little bit and that is always good. Bernie

    • Absolutely Bernie. You may want to introduce yourself in the forum and consider attending some of our events this season.

For example, I am planning a MFCC Breakfast for April, which could be a good opportunity for meeting potential crew.

I will work on scheduling other “meet and greet” events as well, because I know there are plenty of folks out there looking to “buddy up” and fish together.
