Bass & Bluefish In The Nighttime Surf

Surfcasting the beach at night is a spiritual experience for many anglers here on Cape Cod. Standing alone beneath a dune with a moon overhead and stripers at your feet is pretty special.

Before this north wind and rain rolled into the region, I was able to fish the beach at night with several My Fishing Cape Codders. I had a tremendous time catching a dozen bass and bluefish up to 32 inches.

  • Ryan great forum you run here! I’m a south shire Long Island guy coming to stay a the days cottages for a week june 12- with the wife. Gonna get as much as possible while I’m there. You think in better off throwing plugs/bucks/plastics on the bayside or beach? Again great site I’ll be checking it throughout my trip. Thanks!

    • Both sides could be productive Kris. I’d recommend swinging into Nelson’s Bait and Tackle while you’re down there. Those guys are very knowledgeable and have a good pulse on the bite.

Gluck and have fun out there! Plenty of fish around.

  • That’s awesome. I been fishing the hell atta Manomet Beach. “Churchills Landing” area, for years now. Loved it so much, I moved down here. Always have the same problem -w- fish swimming up to my lure and breaking away at the last second. Never tried it at night or with anyone else. Gonna keep trying.
    Great work bro.

    • Small world! My Dad’s side of the family grew up in Manomet. Great area.

I will be very interested in hearing how things go for you this season in those rocks. Gluck if you happen to give it a try this weekend.

      • Thanks bro. It truly is a slice of heaven. Over a mile of beach front and i’m lucky if i see a single person fishing. Tons of boulders or sand, sand, sand. Need to figure out how to master the eel thing. Gonna be a lil creapy this year while being in the kayak. Esp after the great white incident. LOL.
        Have a great day/weekend.

        • Yeah watch out for the great whites! My father spoke with a gentleman recently who saw a seal with a big bite mark, not far from you.

          Stay safe and tight lines!
