Paradise Found!

Ever sit at your desk and dream about the perfect getaway? Even for just a day, wouldn't it be nice to escape to a far away place where few people venture? I think I've found that place.

Whether you're looking for a quiet place to sit back and relax for a weekend to do some biking, hiking and exploring, or surprise your fishing-enthusiast significant other, this would be the place to go.

No matter how long you stay, whether it’s just for the day or you decide to stay overnight, you’ll leave there feeling like you just stepped out of a wonderland.

The area is made up of dirt roads, little beaches, trails and beautiful scenery.

When Ryan first approached me with the idea of visiting this special place, I was a little skeptical.  I was told that we would need to bring our own cooler of food…for every single meal…because there are no restaurants nearby.

Ryan explained to me that there is a general store that sells necessities but that is only open for maybe two hours a day…but no one actually knows when it will really be open because the owner prefers to show up only when she feels most inclined.

I was also told that Ryan would be surf casting for stripers every evening, and in the morning, so it was up to me to find things to do.

I quickly realized when I stepped into this place that all of those things I was “warned” about are what makes this place so special.

I felt like I was in a different era!  A short dirt road led me towards a small quaint village.

From there old roads and driveways meandered in every direction.

Hydrangeas and rose gardens colored every house, and little white picket fences lined the sidewalks.  A small little school house and a little white church completed the town, making it ever so charming.

Ryan and I stayed overnight at a cluster of little houses with individual rooms for rent, with the greatest host who made us feel right at home.

Our view was amazing…

Every room is equipped with a living room, dining area and kitchen, so you will feel right at home.

As soon as we arrived we immediately took off to explore.

As you can see from my picture below, I made out like a bandit with sea glass!

The place is loaded!

Searching for sea glass is one of Ryan and I’s favorite hobbies to do together in the summer.  It’s a great way to clear the mind and just listen to the waves and gulls overhead.

The wildlife was wonderful.  We saw seals, deer and bunnies.

We also saw many varieties of birds, and of course a few striped bass.

The sunset we saw that night was spectacular, as you’ll see in the video below which Ryan filmed using his drone.

With the area located far away from industrial lights and pollution, nights here make for some beautiful star gazing.  I think I could have sat on our porch looking at those stars all night had it not been for those pesky mosquitoes that always seem to find me (note to self: pack more bug spray!).

So enough about the “boring” stuff, let’s get to what matters the most…fishing!

On our last morning, I joined Ryan as he did some surf casting for stripers.  We ended up walking for miles.

It took about two hours, and I recommend a sturdy pair of shoes for the rocky shores here, but the effort was well worth it.

Before I joined Ryan that morning, he had already been out for quite some time and had apparently stumbled upon some big stripers, one of which he sadly lost quite literally right under his feet.

I’m sure if you are the girlfriend, partner, wife or friend of a fisherman, you’ve heard these stories, and they break your heart!

I’ve learned over the years how to tell the difference between a good fishing trip and a bad fishing trip based on the tone of Ryan’s voice when he answers the phone.

After returning home, I quickly realized how different life was in this unique corner of Cape Cod.

The laid-back vibes, the peaceful and quiet evenings and the sense of welcoming and camaraderie is what makes this place so special.

  • Nice Lauren. Great perspective. I recognized “the place” instantly from the photos.

  • Great write-up and description! Definitely one of my favorite places to visit, both to relax and do a little fishing. Once you visit for the first time, you understand why people rarely just go once.
