Striped Bass to 49 Inches

I hope you are having a great Memorial Day Weekend! The sun is finally shining and the fishing has so far been very productive this holiday weekend.

The bite for truly big fish was on fire yesterday and Friday during the overcast conditions and brisk NW wind.

In fact, My Fishing Cape Cod member Jim Murphy took over 1st place in the boat division of our season-long derby with a whopping 49 inch striper caught yesterday morning.

On Friday I was fishing onboard our weekly group fishing trip which we offer to members of our website. Captain Cullen of Cape Star Charters put us onto fish from schoolies, all the way up to bass of 48 inches.

In the below 16 minute video report, MFCC members can learn:

  • The areas where we are finding bass to 49 inches
  • The techniques we are using the catch these big fish
  • The specific baits and lures which are working best
  • Plus much more

Today's bright and sunny skies may be great for the beach, but they are not ideal for fishing. I would focus my fishing efforts later today at sunset and throughout the night.

Tomorrow's forecast looks a bit more promising for fishing, with overcast skies and some rain returning for the afternoon and into the evening. I believe the bass will bite better during this predicted cloudy/rainy weather pattern.

In the spirit of Memorial Day, I would also like to thank our Veterans and members of our local police, fire and ambulance teams. I wish you a terrific Memorial Day, and thank you as always for your service to our communities.

    • Hey Mike!

I love your enthusiasm and I’m really happy you are back into fishing after your operation. You are an INSPIRATION to us all.

Bourne has many great places. The Canal has been on fire all spring, and the beaches almost always have some schoolies kicking around.

Scusset Beach around high tide would be a good bet. Back River and the Pocasset River are also good bets for schoolies. Over in Sandwich you have Sandy Neck which offers miles of walking and casting opportunities. Old Silver in Falmouth can be good as can South Cape in Mashpee. You can also try basically any inlet or estuary opening….stripers love moving water.
