The First Striper Schools Have Arrived!

by Tyler Putney

Hey MFCC! Captain Tyler here from Flatliner Charters with a quick fishing report for today, May 2.

I headed out earlier this morning for a tautog trip and as soon as we got set up at our spot we had bites right away, in the general area shown below.

They were on the smaller side to start off but then the bigger ones came, and we were able to catch three per angler pretty fast.

As we were scanning around the horizon, we saw a a few birds working and noticed there was a good amount of action underneath them.

We saw stripers jumping and a little small mackerel getting pushed around.

We headed to the action and had some mackerel that were getting chased right along the side of the boat with a good amount of stripers behind them.

So of course we threw a plug out, and on the first cast, we got a slot size 28 inch fish!

Reelin' them in!

For the rest of the trip we were into the striper schools, catching at least 10 that would be in the slot size, so it was pretty good action.

If we started that from the beginning, who knows how many we would have caught, so that's exciting news!

It was a great day in upper Buzzard's Bay.

So far this season has had some awesome tautog fishing and now a strong start to the striper season.

I'm looking forward to getting out there again and I hope you can too!
