Strong Start To Flounder Season

So lets just suffice to say that this is the best flounder season we have had since the 1980s!

I believe there are more and more fish piling into the harbor every day, and that with a few more days of decent weather, the flounder will be chewing the paint off the bottom of my boat.

Lets begin with my trip on May 6th. I had 4 people scheduled to be onboard Little Sister and one was "missing" so at 7am I anchored near the ramp for a half hour to see if the missing crew member would show up.

By 7:30 and with no sign of the missing man, we pulled anchor and went to the next flounder spot to set the chum pots down for the incoming tide. By 8am we started catching and by 9:30 we were throwing anything under 15 inches back, unless it was deeply hooked.

Even then we had to stop fishing at 10am as we were at the limit (5 people including me with 40 keeper flounders). We threw over 20 legal fish back and caught a 2 pound lobster which was also released.

The weather on May 6th was still questionable but the fishing keeps getting better and better. I'm really looking forward to what we see when the flounder really start to settle in and feed.

May 7th

There has been a very positive response to my proposal of open boat for Wednesday evenings from 5:30pm-8:30pm, so these trips will happen starting May 18th.

I have 3 spots available on May 18th and I'm looking to fill them. My trips on the 25th and June 1st also have plenty of room at this time.

I had a cancellation for the morning of Sunday May 15th that is still open as well. Right now the best way of booking is to call me at (617)755-3740.

My May 7th trip was interesting to say the least. It started off with an adventure in getting to the shore to pick up the group as the tide was exceptionally low and I grounded out on some rocks!

It took me 45 minutes to finally get the boat free and we missed some of the best tide by the time we got to where we were going. That didn't matter as the fish were not biting anyway.

More raw, east wind and cold, with on and off rain put a big damper on the flounders' enthusiasm compared to the day before. Nevertheless we still managed to limit out!
