Welcome back to another round of this week's top catches from the My Fishing Cape Cod community.
If you’ve been out on the water, you know August is prime time for chasing big fish, and this week did not disappoint.
Whether you're into albies, stripers, bluefish or tuna, we’ve got some great stories to share.
Let’s dive into the action! 🎣
Mark Burton’s First Tuna!
On August 15th, Mark Burton embarked on his first-ever tuna trip with MFCC group trip captain Tyler Putney of Flatliner Charters, and it turned out to be nothing short of spectacular.
It only took 15 minutes to hook up with a 365-pound giant, making it seem like this kind of luck happens every day.
"First tuna trip ever yesterday with Tyler of Flatliner Charters. Took us all of 15 minutes to hook up with a 365 lb giant! I’m sure it happens like this all the time."

Jeff Boswell's Striper Adventure
On August 13th, Jeff Boswell had a bit of a mixed bag out on the water. After starting his day with some schoolies up in Plymouth, he decided to explore further down the bay.
While there wasn't much action initially, persistence paid off. Jeff eventually found an area teeming with life—whales, tuna, and big stripers smashing pogies on the surface.
"My best fish below - amazing take on the surface, seemed like it bullied a few other fish off the doc. Definitely one I won’t forget anytime soon."

Carol Girard-Irwin and the Wellfleet Bonito
Carol Girard-Irwin shared an exciting report from August 14th, fishing off Wellfleet. The morning started with pods of Bonito that were a bit picky with lures.
However, Carol had a trick up her sleeve—a larger silver lure she brought back from Ireland. As soon as she switched to that, it was game on, with one fish tipping the scales at over 5 pounds.
"Pods of Bonito in Wellfleet this morning. They didn’t like smaller lures...One fish was over 5lb, lots of fun!"

Eelman's Late-Night Success
On August 14th, Mike Marcus, shared a great shot of Eelman Dave Lane's catch. It was one of those nights where everything just clicked, and the picture speaks for itself—one hefty fish and one happy fisherman.
"@eelman Dave Lane getting it done! Great job Eelman."
Oh, and by the way, Eelman Dave is in his late 80's.
I am inspired by you Dave! Keep it up!

Graham Stephens’ Mahi and Bluefin Bonanza
August 16th was another fantastic day for Graham Stephens, who ventured south of the Vineyard. He reported a successful day of pulling Mahi off the wind farm structure and trolling up two football-sized bluefin tuna in the same area.
It was a day full of action, proving once again that persistence pays off.
"We pulled a number of mahi off the wind farm structure just south of Gordon’s Gully and trolled up two 30-36” football bluefin in the same area on green/yellow and purple/black tracker bars."

Bradley Johnson had an epic day on August 18th while fly fishing with his son off Waquoit Bay. After a successful day with bonito, they found themselves in a feeding frenzy of Albies.
Despite the challenging conditions, both father and son managed to land some impressive fish, including Bradley’s personal best Albie.
"I was deep, deep into my backing - about 20 minutes later we landed my PB Albie - one of my favorite fish ever."

Ian Marcus’ Epic Week off Chatham
Ian Marcus had a stellar week right outside Chatham North Cut, reeling in some impressive catches. On August 15th, the waters were alive with action.
Ian started the day by putting out live mackerel, which were quickly crushed by some very healthy and lively stripers, all ranging from 31 to 35 inches. The energy of these fish was off the charts, making it the most exciting hits that Ian had experienced all year.
In just about 20 minutes, he had landed five stripers.
"Right outside Chatham North Cut was fantastic today. Put out live Mac’s and all got crushed by very healthy and lively stripers. Most energetic hits all year. All fish 31-35”. Caught 5 in about 20 mins. Put out a dead whiting and it got eaten by an absolutely monster gator blue. First one of the season for me."
As if that wasn’t enough, Ian also put out a dead whiting, which was devoured by an absolute monster gator blue—his first of the season. The surprises didn’t end there, as he also hooked a ray on a herring jig, something he hadn’t expected.
All of this action took place in just 18-30 feet of water, with Ian starting his drift at 30 feet. Despite the absence of birds, the sonar was lit up, signaling a day of fishing he wouldn’t soon forget.
Ian continued his streak on August 18th, when he encountered more monstrous blues off Chatham. The waters were buzzing with activity, making for another unforgettable day on the water.

In Conclusion
That’s it for this week’s best catches! However I could have honestly made this blog post much longer as there's been no shortage of action shared this week in the members' forum.
Whether you’re an angler with decades of experience or are just getting into the sport, don't be bashful and please feel free to make a post inside our forum.
I am very happy that we've created a supportive online community here on MFCC that's been going strong for over a decade now. In a world of online cyber bullying and toxic social media platforms, I feel MFCC is a like a breath of fresh air.
Keep it up! And tight lines!
Wonderful to see the variety of beautiful fish caught by MFCC members!
Yes it is really cool. Just this past week I’ve seen mahi, triggerfish, bluefin tuna, stripers, bluefish, albies, bonito, fluke, and sea bass catches post to the forum. I’ve probably missed a bunch of other species too, LOL.
