3 Giant Bluefin Tunas Checked Out My Bluefish!

In this video, three giant bluefin tunas make a quick pass at a low 30 inch class bluefish that I was slow trolling from my boat in this general area off Cape Cod.

It's tough to say for sure just how big these tunas are. However, historically, most of the tunas that are caught in the area where I was filming have been 90 inches or more in length.

These giant tunas were probably cruising about 30-40 feet beneath the surface.

It's unusual to catch tuna under 90 inches in length in the area where I was filming.

Last week I changed my setup and got a bite on video! I'll post that vid next week on MFCC.

This is the first giant bluefin that I captured on film back on September 8th (my birthday!).

In this image you can see I attached the line to the area just behind the bluefish's head.

I'm now bridling the bluefish through the nose which presents the bait in a more natural way.

I filmed this footage on September 13th and I almost forgot to post it, however better late than never!

My curiosity with filming giants began a little over a month ago when I posted a video of a giant bluefin tuna that came over to investigate a live-lined 34 inch bluefish that I was slow trolling from my boat.

I was pretty excited about that footage and so were many others...

Since then I've been devoting time and energy into trying to capture a giant tuna bite on video.

I'm happy to report that last week it finally happened and I'll be sharing that bite footage here on My Fishing Cape Cod next week!

Stay tuned...

I'm fortunate to have grown up on the beach, and I've been fishing since kindergarten. I have great family, friends and fishing experiences to be thankful for. Just being out there is enough-catching fish is just a bonus!

  • Way to go a Ryan. Kept plugging and you got it. Great video here and I look forward to seeing the next. Spectacular stuff. Good for you !! 👊

  • Really cool !
I always wonder what makes fish not commit to an easy feed, especially when it’s live and in distress.

    • I know! I’ve been thinking the same thing. However I might of just had a breakthrough…

I got a new camera setup that is 100% all black (the previous one I was using was blue) and my first time out last week I got a bite on camera!

I’m actually traveling right now in Italy so I’ll probably post the video next week.
