A Bass On Every Cast | Fly Fishing Report

On Friday October 7th myself and MFCC intern Andrew Burke encountered fantastic fly fishing for schoolies and small keeper stripers.

The bass were not large but they were present in astounding numbers. Hundreds of stripers were patrolling up and down the shoreline.

Fortunately for me the big schools were cruising a mere 20-30 feet off the beach. I am still very "green" with the fly rod, so this was the perfect situation for my limited fly-casting ability.

The action was great during the entire first 3 hours of the outgoing tide. Slightly larger bass up to 30 inches moved in after dark. In total Andrew and I probably landed around 40 fish.

  • Wow, literally every cast. There are tons of little stripers this year, which is a great sign for the future! Also a blast on the fly rod I bet.

    • Tons more fun catching the little guys on the fly rod. As you mention it’s awesome to see so many little guys. Wonder if these schoolies will return to the same area 15 years from now as 30 pounders.
