This July my friend Jason and I have been catching big striped bass during broad daylight from our 12ft tin boat.
With no sonar or GPS, catching big fish from the tin boat is definitely a more "primal" fishing experience, which is proving to be a ton of fun!
I grew up fishing with my dad on a tin boat just like this one, using the same 6 horse power Johnson engine you'll see featured in the below video.

Incredibly that 6 horse power Johnson is 21 years old and still going strong!

Tight lines and take care!
I’m taking my 15 ft vhaul out more with 9.9 Just have to find safe areas hah
Lots of great places worth exploring where its safe and protected. Check out all the bays and harbors. Places like Popponesset, Wellfleet, Barnstable, Plymouth, Pleasant Bay, the 3 Bays area in Cotuiot, Waquoit and many others. ✌?
Looks like you got into some great fish. OnTheWater recently put out a video fishing in the same manner around Boston, hoping to book a charter with some of my less fishing-experienced friends this fall. Have never fished this way before but it looks like a blast.
It’s simple fishing and a lot of fun – as long as the weather is good!
Thanks for checking out the video Ben and I will have to go watch that On The Water piece.
Those are some nice fish from the tin boat! Great trip and well documented as always.
Gotta love the simple fishing that comes with a small boat!
How has the canal been treating you lately?
It’s been pretty good, as I am sure you have heard. It’s an easy pre-work trip although I am planning to hit the surf a little more soon.
Very nice!
And regarding the surf, I am also inspired to give the beach a try again after seeing David’s 48 incher which is in first place in the derby! https://myfishingcapecod.com/mfcc-derby/
That is one EPIC catch!
