This October I’ve been surfcasting different locations, including spots around the Greater Boston area, in search of late-season striped bass.

I am having fun exploring new places, and catching a few stripers here and there.
During this trip (which took place on October 25th) I was surprised to encounter hundreds of cormorants, diving and feeding.

With so many cormorants in the area, I figured there must be bait around. Can you imagine the amount of baitfish required to feed a giant flock of cormorants?

If you follow the Canal Today thread in our forum, then you’ll see folks are still catching schoolies, with the occasional keeper mixed in.

There have also been scattered reports of larger bass up to 30 pounds being seen and caught in the canal area over the past week.
Without a doubt, large stripers have become much more scarce and difficult to find all throughout Cape Cod and the Islands. However you still have a chance of hooking into a fish with some shoulders.

Schoolie Stripers Still Abundant On Cape Cod

The striper fishing for me the past 72 hours has been challenging.

There have been some good pushes of fish through parts of the Cape (we’ll talk about that later) but for me the fishing has been very hit and miss.
On Thursday night I had this decent trip jigging on Cape with 8 bass up to 30 inches. On Friday and Saturday I decided to head off Cape and explore Plymouth Bay via kayak.

This October I’ve been chasing stripers as they migrate south through the weed beds, ledges and rock piles of Buzzard’s Bay.

Surfcasting here is very different than surfcasting in other areas throughout Cape Cod.
Aside from the swift currents and huge rocks, private property and no trespassing signs are posted all over creation. Buzzard’s Bay is a challenging place to fish.

Ryan Collins Back during the weekend of October 9th, I had the pleasure of joining a group of My Fishing Cape Codders for a surfcasting trip on Martha’s Vineyard. The weather was pretty challenging the first day and night, but on my second day the skies cleared up and the sun shone through. My Fishing Cape

Ryan Collins Early yesterday morning, while fishing a rock ledge covered with eel grass, I hooked and landed my first striper for the MFCC Derby. The fish was caught in one of the coolest spots my cousin Kevin (host of the podcast) and I have ever fished for striped bass.  I never would of caught the fish

Andrew Burke Once I finished my classes for the day at UMass, I immediately packed up my car and headed for the Cape. After reading all the positive “fall run” reports, I was chomping at the bit to do some surfcasting. I was able to get in contact with Ryan Collins, and we made a spur

Columbus Day Weekend Recap

Ryan Collins At 7:45am this morning I met up with MFCC member Jeff Petter for a day of surfcasting. Conditions were pretty gnarly to say the least. The wind was howling out of the northeast at more than 20 miles per hour. The waves were stacked up and I estimated they were averaging about 5 feet.

Ryan Collins Some of the biggest bluefish of the entire season have showed up the past few days here on Cape Cod. These are “gator” bluefish over the 10 pound mark with some specimens pushing 15+ pounds. In this post I would like to share with you another drone surfcasting video filmed by my friend Zach

Ryan Collins The striper fishing this past weekend on Cape Cod was very good. I hope you were able to catch a few! Once again I spent my fishing time this weekend in a 12 foot tin boat, but recently I have started wetsuiting, and swimming to offshore boulders. I like to think of myself as

Andrew Burke When my girlfriend offered me the chance to stay with her family for a few days on their annual vacation to Martha’s Vineyard, I jumped at opportunity. This meant five days of sunshine, excellent swimming, and access to “fishy” water! After listening to Brian McCarty’s surf reports on the MFCC podcast, I was very excited

Ryan Collins If you follow My Fishing Cape Cod on Snapchat (username: fishingcapecod) then you know I fished Rhode Island this morning. Expect more on that trip coming soon, but for now I would like to focus on the spectacular surfcasting I’ve been encountering throughout the Cape area. There are other My Fishing Cape Codders doing well
