Ryan Collins This January I’ve been combing estuaries in search of the elusive Cape Cod holdover striped bass.  So I have made two trips, and have been fortunate to catch several holdover bass up to 20 pounds. My most productive trip so far occurred the night of January 13th, the day after the first My

Andrew BurkeHello everybody! I hope you had a great holiday season, and have been able to get on the water! Despite the cold temperatures, the freshwater fishing on Cape has been very consistent. Small minnow-style lures and metal spoons have been producing trout on the stocked ponds of Cape Cod.Normally, I prefer to use lures when

Dex ChadseyMFCC member since 2013 Westport, located on the western side of Buzzards Bay, is a hidden gem for fishing. Westport may not technically be on Cape Cod, but the area is close enough (and fishy enough!) to warrant investigation. Westport supports a wide variety of fishing environments. One moment you think you’re at Cuttyhunk, the next

So far this December, in my annual search for the elusive holdover striped bass, my best success has been realized via kayak in the Sandwich & Barnstable area. In particular, trolling from the Hobie kayak has been hands down the most effective strategy for locating and catching holdover stripers. This is the technique I used to locate

Ryan Collins The bass were biting this weekend!  Christmas may be right around the corner, but stripers can still be caught on Cape Cod, if you know where to look. I would imagine that 99% of the Cape’s striper population has migrated south. Yet for whatever reason, very small and scattered schools of bass remain

David StetsonMember since 2014 On May 30th 2016, I reunited with my younger, non-fisherman brother Doug, at the Cooke’s Seafood parking lot in Hyannis.  This was Day One of my annual trip from Oregon to visit my ninety year old mother, my brother, and to surf fish – not necessarily in that order. Our destination

Andrew BurkeMFCC Intern The moment I crossed the Sagamore bridge and looked down at the Cape Cod Canal, I simply couldn’t resist the urge to wet a line. When I finally arrived at home for Thanksgiving break, I wasn’t in the house for more than 10 minutes before I was out the door again with my

Ryan Turcotte Yesterday, for the first time, I fished Rhode Island, hoping to catch a few migrating stripers. I put in a lot of effort bouncing around from place to place. Most places had signs of life and plenty of bait but the fish seemed to be staying far offshore where I could only watch the feeds

Ryan Collins This fishing trip began yesterday afternoon around 2:30pm. After a fairly long drive I popped out of my car, eager to check the inlet and nearby beach. There were birds and a seal diving and feeding in the crests of waves. I saw a small splash, which I thought may have been a striper.

Yesterday I was shocked to be catching monster bluefish during November! Big blues are still around if you know where to look, and are willing to travel. Yesterday actually began with micro-schoolies jumping and chasing bait in the early morning sunlight.
After catching a few micros I noticed a large flock of birds working hard over what appeared to be some very large bluefish. I quickly reeled in my line and began to carefully hustle down the jetty rocks.
