I hope you had a great weekend and were able to enjoy the sunshine. I think it's safe to say that spring is here to stay!
On Saturday afternoon the wind was howling at the Cape Cod Canal. It was quite chilly to say the least.
I had also seen gannets "dive bombing" the water off the East End (probably chasing mackerel) and on Saturday my Dad spotted a half dozen Right Whales less than one mile from the beach in Cape Cod Bay.
There is life in the water off the East End of the Cape Cod Canal.

Tautog in the Canal?
My buddy Garet and I had heard a story about a solitary tautog being caught in the Canal-so we figured we should investigate.
Before we hit the Ditch, Garet and I swung by Canal Bait & Tackle to catch up with Jeff. It had been a while since we last visited the shop.

Right there on the counter was a photo of a single 6 pound tautog which had been caught from the banks of the Canal way back on March 30th.
The solitary tautog rumor was true!

That area of the Canal looks a lot nicer, that’s for sure!
I enjoy standing on the bulkhead and watching the behavior of the baitfish in response to current and predators.
It’s definitely a cool place where you can often see schoolies swimming in the lights during the summer.
Good spot for “shadow fishing”.
