It's late October, it's cold and the weather is always questionable.
I work so much, but I'm not complaining because my work provides a good life for my family and I. However work cuts into my first love, which is of course fishing!
This time of the year I seem to be alone on the ocean. I hold off winterizing the boat until mid November, and I do take pride in stretching out the season.
But my most proud moment occurred last weekend, while taking out my two oldest children for some late season bluefish.
Nowadays the young lady is more about hanging with her friends and my son-well he plays all types of sports. Long gone are the pickup games. Everything is pay to play and it takes up the whole darn weekend!
I digress....anyhow both kids skipped their plans for the day and decided to accompany me on a possible (dare I say it) last outing of the year.
Peanut Bunker, Birds and Blues
With cold hands and chilly air, the kids and I ran into a massive amount of birds working the waters just south of the harbor (MFCC members can learn what harbor I am speaking of by reading my forum post about this trip).
The event went on for a good 2 hours. Peanut bunker all around, big blues taking anything we threw out at them! Seeing the kids "double up" multiple times and being able to capture it on the Go Pro was precious to me.
There was just one other boat out there with us and we had the bite pretty much all to ourselves. What a blast!
Say what you want about blues. In my family we make fish cakes, smoked blue fish pate' and this broiled bluefish dish which I shared with MFCC earlier this season.
Bluefish are one hell of a good fighting fish. I hate to say it, but I got the blues!
So much so that I had no choice but to realign my schedule and get back out there ASAP. I will share with you how that trip went in Last Call For Bruiser Bluefish | Part #2 which will publish here on MFCC this Sunday afternoon.
Tight lines my friends,
Eric Meyer

What you wrote, I too have experienced off the Jersey Shore where I live, and I actually am awaiting those same bluefish in November along with Big Bass. Taking the kids out and introducing them to fishing is wonderful. I have learned in my life that the urge to fish is inherited or just plain in your DNA. I do hope your children inherited it because it sure looks like they are having fun and it can be a lifetime of fulfilment. Thank you for sharing your photos!
Great site, I truly enjoy the fishing community you have created.
Always love reading your reports and updates Eric. Nice work with the photography as well! Hope the alarm ends up being an easy fix.
