Ryan Collins
The Memorial Day Weekend rush was over. My drive down Route 6 was fast and easy.
By 4pm I had arrived at ABC Campground in North Truro. The friendly staff checked me in, and within an hour I was ready to go fishing.
With miles of coastline and perfect weather, I felt like a kid on Christmas Eve! However I still had my work cut out for me, because finding fish along these endless miles of sand can be quite the challenge.
I learned firsthand just how challenging surfcasting Lower Cape Cod can be when I walked and fished 27 miles of it last September. This time I prayed I would have an easier time finding the bite.

I arrived back at my tent just before sunrise. After walking close to 10 miles through the sand it did not take me long to fall asleep!
Right now I am getting some work done on my computer via the wifi connection at Savory and Sweet Escape in Truro.
Once done I will be back on the beach and/or in the kayak for another night of exploring and fishing the many wild miles of coastline of the Lower Cape.
Tight lines!

Hi Ryan, what are you wearing on your feet? Looks like wet suit boots?? Do you wear a wet suit boot over stocking feet waders? Any experience or suggestion for what you have found as a good surf boot? Do you wear a wet suit boot over stocking feet waders for sand and/or pebbly beach kind of condition?
Hey Gary,
Yes those are neoprene booties, very similar to these > https://www.themightyfish.com/products/zipit-bootie-ii?variant=10041672581
I wear them right over my stocking foot waders.
I prefer these booties because they are so comfortable, and I wear them on sandy, pebbly beaches. Traditional wading boots are better for rock/boulder and slippery estuary mud.
Hi Ryan. Excellent site. Very informative and though i can’t get to the cape much i love living it vicariously through you.
We will be coming down to the Bourne area later this month and bringing a couple young ladies who have never caught a striper. Rather than put them through the rigors of lure fishing i thought chunk bait might be their best bet. Can you reccommend a spot they might like?? Thanks!! Ken.
Hi Ken! Sounds like a fun trip you have planned.
For chunks I would recommend fishing the beach 2 hours before to 2 hours after high tide. You could even fish right off the jetty at Scusset Beach.
Good luck out there!
Nice work with the video!
Your filming of the trips is great and gets better and better.
Thanks Ryan! I am having a lot of fun with the video right now.
Sounds like a pretty good night Ryan! A few more fish than on the 27 mile hike and no coyotes! What’s with the dead birds though?
It was a perfect night Darren.
However I actually did see a coyote, but this time I was driving!
So many dead birds. Not sure what is up.
