First off I would like to wish you a very happy New Year. 2016 was a great season for fishing on Cape Cod and I have a feeling 2017 will be even better.
Today I want to take a look at the 2016 Cape Cod fishing season and share with you some of my most unforgettable experiences.
After viewing this post, I hope you will also share your most unforgettable experiences from 2016 by posting in the comment section below.

Top 2 for me were:
1. Ned Bean and I fishing the MV Derby. Originally our goal was to catch a weigh-able fish by close of the weigh-house. I caught a good fish, looked at the time, and said “Ned you’ve got about half an hour to catch a good fish, or we’ll have to leave to weigh mine.” I sat on the beach, and in about 10 minutes, Ned got a much bigger catch than I. With the clock ticking, we got lost. Ned hopped a fence and ended up on the main road, I cut my own patch back to the car. We made the weigh-in with 2 fish and 8 minutes until close. We each got a pin for a daily fish on the board.
2. I don’t keep secretive spots (I prefer to take people where I’m going). I was fishing with my friend Alex on one of the foggiest nights I can remember. We were out on the rocks about 60 yards offshore. We could hear two fishermen getting nearer, and I told him to stay silent and no lights (hoping they’d move on). They didn’t move on. In complete silence Alex caught a 20+ bass, I unhooked and released it, and we swam back to shore and left. They had no idea we were even there.
Excellent Brian!
I’m already looking forward to hearing more stories from you during 2017.
Spring is right around the corner.
2016 had many great experiences for me. I made a commitment to grow in three different areas; fishing at night, learning new areas, and fishing more with new friends from MFCC.
This all came together during several expeditions this season, most notably a trip to Block Island with my good friend Ned Bean. We learned a lot about this bass fishing paradise and will return with a MFCC group there this coming season.
Pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone can lead to great discoveries in front of you and within yourself!
Well said Dex!
I am looking forward to more MFCC adventures to new areas during 2017.
2017 will even be better. Happy New Year to all at MFCC.
Amen to that. Happy New Year.
