Dozens of reports in the forum from MFCC members show that the bite is heating up in both sweet and salt water. So ignore the lawn for a few more days and dig into the intel that MFCC members are providing in the forum.

Freshwater Action
Even though his handle seems to indicate a salt water preference, StriperMadness Mike can't seem to pull himself away from his favorite freshwater haunts, and continues to post evidence of a record bite that hasn't slowed yet.
The Freshwater Bass 2025 thread includes a ton of great photos. Black Senkos seem to be a lure of choice and the daytime and evening bite continues for not only largemouth but some smallmouth bass as well.

StriperMadness Mike Marcus proves his freshwater prowess with this beautiful largemouth caught on a black Senko at one of his favorite Cape Cod honey holes. Despite his saltwater handle, Mike's been documenting this spring's exceptional bass bite. Follow his complete fishing reports in the Freshwater Bass 2025 forum thread.
Striper Migration Update
Speaking of stripers, the Spring 2025 Surf Casters thread is chock full of reports of migrating bass making their way into our waters. If you've been following the forum this spring, you've received a nearly blow-by-blow description of the migrating bass moving north from their winter haunts through New Jersey, Long Island Sound, Rhode Island and now into our waters.
Ranging from schoolie-sized bass to above-slot fish, check out the details of MFCC members prowling their favorite spots in both day and night time, including Grant Stark's personal best. Even though the water seems cool for this time of the year, there's even a report of bluefish mixed in. With scup reported in good numbers in Hyannis, the 2025 striper season is looking promising!

According to MFCC member Noah Ezickson's forum post from May 12th, "Wind in the face had them chewing last night. Ended up with 12 fish over-slot in a little over two hours alongside Nick Beltramini, including two over 40. The kind of night you dream of in the winter, and work hard to find in the spring. Can’t wait to do it again tonight."
Tips for Surf Casting Newcomers
Those newer to surf casting may want to check the surf casters thread for some great information including why you may want to consider replacing treble hooks with single in-line hooks and what to carry on your surf belt including fish grips, heavy duty long-nosed pliers and heavy duty cutters.
Boating Updates

MFCC members (and brothers) Mark and Eddy Kooyomjian had a productive day on Buzzard's Bay on May 16th. According to Eddy's report in the forum "There were more shorts mixed in but we got a two person limit in a couple hours with a steady bite. There was also an interesting double header taken with a large sea bass and a toad fish."
If you're just getting your boat in the water, the Buzzards Bay 2025 thread has great information on tautog and striper fishing locations.
Flounder fishing from Sesuit Harbor is in full swing, and other boaters will get more active in the forum with Memorial Day around the corner and as stripers push further north, and the sea bass season kicks into high gear.
Fly Fishing Community
Fly fishermen are active in the Fly Fishing and Fly Tying 2025 thread, including a nice picture of the work Ken Holt put into preparing for the Cheeky tournament.

MFCC member Ken Holt recently shared some of his extensive collection of flies that he's been preparing for this weekend's Cheeky Fly Fishing Tournament.
Finding Fishing Partners
A great benefit to MFCC membership is finding a fishing buddy, making time on the water more enjoyable and often much safer. The new Kayaking Buddies thread includes a picture of an above-slot bass near a railroad bridge you might recognize.
Another way to meet up with fellow anglers is to participate in the 36-Hour Grind Fishing Tournament May 30-June 1. Check that thread for more details about how to participate in this first spring edition of the increasingly popular tournament. Even if you're unable to enter the tournament, you can attend the awards ceremony on June 1 at 6 p.m. at Sandy Neck Beach to meet your fellow MFCC members and see who came out on top.
Member Craftsmanship
The creativity of MFCC members is on full display in the Lure Building Should Come With a Warning thread. There you'll find lures hand-made by our members that only seem to be missing a plastic bag and price tag! One of the most active threads in the winter, this thread tends to quiet down as the weather warms and fish begin cooperating, as these artists put their creations into action.

MFCC member Ken Webber has been experimenting and perfecting the art of 3D lure printing. According to Ken's recent post in the forum "I think this is the final version of the SC Swimmer. 1.58 oz and casts great. Swims just below the surface. Through wired and designed for a 4X strong 4/0 treble and a tail hook or flag."
New Member Resources
The Introduce Yourself to the Forum thread is a great place to not only get started as a MFCC member, but to also mine for the detailed information on becoming better at our craft. More experienced members are always willing to provide quality information to help jumpstart your fishing journey. For example, an ask about how to get started surf/canal fishing in early June in and around Sandwich led to this response:
"During that time I would be fishing the canal and the beach. Get some jigs (sand eel and get heavier like 5 ounce to get to bottom). Go get some poppers and swimmers also for canal. Go white and mackeral, Blurple, or black at night. You have Red Top and Canal Bait who can handle all of your needs. Maybe rent canal bike near the train bridge west end. You're here at a great time. Stripers will be coming through. Get an 11-foot rod that can handle heavy jigs and throw 3 ounce lures. Now you can go beach or canal. Tight lines and be safe. Keep asking away. We are here to help."
Beyond Fishing: Local History and Culture

My Fishing Cape Cod member Leslie Kalinowski recently shared her role as a CG36500 ambassador in the forum. Leslie and her team just completed painting the hull of this historic vessel, which gained fame for its heroic 1952 rescue of 32 sailors during a brutal nor'easter. The legendary boat, featured in Disney's 'The Finest Hours,' is on display summers at Rock Harbor, Orleans.
While the forum is mainly a place to learn about where the fish are biting, what they are being caught on and how to prepare for your next outing, MFCC members do make the time to add to the Appreciating What We Have thread. There you'll find interesting information about the Cape and Islands.
Recent posts in the Appreciating What We Have thread discuss the CG36500, the boat that was used in the incredible rescue at sea as detailed in the book The Finest Hours, and subsequent Disney film. If you haven't read the book and/or toured the boat that is berthed in Rock Harbor, add these to your list of 2025 things to do.
Until next time, tight lines!
