This morning began at 4:45AM when I met up with Mike Buckley, Matt Mcgilveary, Darren Jacobs and Predrag Ciric. These four guys have been part of MFCC for a while now and I was happy to finally fish with them!
Around 5AM Cullen from Cape Star Charters pulled into the lot and backed his green Regulator down the boat ramp. It was time to head out and hopefully find the insane topwater action Cullen's crews have been enjoying all this week

Mayhem!
There was a bit of breeze this morning to start, but fortunately we had no trouble making good time to our destination. I enjoyed chatting it up with the crew (and taking photos) as we cruised along at 25mph.
Cullen and I had organize this trip last second, by sending invitations via email to everyone who has signed up to receive charter alerts. If you'd like to receive an invitation the next time we do this, then please let me know by clicking the button below.
Before I knew it we had reached the fishing grounds, but it appeared that not too much was going on. There were a few birds flying around here and there, and several boats working the area, but no obvious signs of fish.
In a heartbeat that all changed! Suddenly we began marking bass on the sonar and Cullen told us to quickly get our baits into the water.
A minute or two later and I heard the first drag scream of the morning. Matt was hooked up!
If my memory is correct I believe Matt ended up losing that fish, but just a few minutes later he was hooked on again.
This time around he was able to land the 20 pound class striper without too much trouble.
Soon after the fish rose from the depths, up towards the surface. The bass weren't yet breaking water but it was obvious to see on the sonar that they were holding much higher in the water column.
Darren was the next to get crushed.
It was about this time I realized that just about all of these fish were big.
Mike was the next to connect...
And then Predrag...
I am very excited to say that the most productive plug during this trip (and all week for Cullen and his crews) has been our very own My Fishing Cape Cod Guppy Pencil Popper.
The MFCC pencil did a fantastic job of imitating the bait fish which the bass were feeding upon.
It was mayhem!
Striper Fishing At Its Best
I will happily troll a tube and worm around all day, or jig with wire. However it is hard to beat the excitement of catching big stripers using topwater plugs.
I don't even care if I hook the fish...the whitewater explosions are #1 in my book.
We were surrounded by a very large and very aggressive school of bass. Nearly all of the fish caught were 20+ pounds, and they were all in "feeding mode."
I captured a ton of video footage during this morning's trip and I will share that with you this coming week on MFCC.
Final tally was 30+ keeper-size stripers landed. I would say the largest was somewhere around 27 pounds. An incredible morning to say the least!

The BEST fishing trip for me, thank you Ryan for organizing.
I am glad it all worked out!!!
Hands down the funnest day of fishing I’ve ever experienced. Thanks a lot Ryan for organizing the trip and also Cullen from cape star charters for getting us on the fish
It was terrific having you there Mike! I have some pretty good video footage of the topwater bites which I’ll be posting soon.
Awesome time thanks ryan collins for putting it together
No problemo Matt, hope to do it again sometime soon!
Good reading.couple weeks im in.on vacation with wife
Nice Steve. Gotta love vacation!
Very cool way to spend a morning! Especially when it is mostly top water action
It was an awesome time Ryan! It was similar to the action that we had on the early May trip but with all big bass instead of schoolies. The bass went absolutely crazy crashing the surface after the poppers.
Yeah the topwater action was a sight to see for sure. Not like that very often!
All of my $$ is tied up in an investment property right now, otherwise, I would have loved to have been among this group.
No worries Brian, maybe next time!
