How BoatUS Helped Us

A few summers ago, Ryan and I took Kevin (host of our podcast) and his girlfriend Chantel out to Sandy Neck for a day of fishing and lounging on the sandbars.

We caught our share of keepers before putting the anchor down at the Sandy Neck sandbars for a little beach time.

It was a Sunday, and we all had to be at work the next morning, so we packed up our things around 4pm, got the anchor in and started the engine.

Except the engine didn't turn over.  Again, and again, and again.

It's safe to safe neither Ryan nor Kevin looked happy, especially because the tide was still going out and full low tide would be here in about 2 hours.

Ryan called BoatUS for a tow in.  The nearest towboat was up in Provincetown, but it didn't take long for him to get to us.  When he arrived, we all agreed that the closest and least expensive harbor to get towed into would be Barnstable Harbor.

By the time we were all hooked up to be towed in, the tide was so low that we knew there was a chance we wouldn't even make it in to Barnstable Harbor with enough water, but our guy was pretty confident, so away we went!

Ryan kept his fish finder on to see what the water depth was, and by just a few inches, we made it safely into the harbor.  Honestly, we wished we could've bought that guy a beer (or five!).

What would have cost us $878 for less than a one mile tow instead cost us absolutely nothing because of our BoatUS membership.  That is something you just can't beat.

If you are brand new to BoatUS, or you are about to renew, then just make sure to enter your cooperating group number during checkout to receive your discount.

If you are already a current BoatUS member, simply email [email protected] and they will apply the discount to your membership.

Tight lines and take care ?

  • This is a great benefit from MFCC. An absolute must have if you’re on the boat 6 months of the year. Had my own experience with Boat US just last month. Engine over heated on the Sakonnett River in RI and would not restart. Called them and received word the tow boat was in East Greenwich. He got there in 30 min and then brought us up to the Tiverton Basin in another 20 minutes (at about 20-25 knots! – guy was moving). the $150 annual membership was worth every penny right there. They send you the invoice later – would have been $717.
