Spring Freshwater Fishing Has Sprung On Cape Cod

Today marks the first day of spring, and already the reports are coming in about excellent fishing around Cape Cod for largemouth bass.  The ponds have also been stocked with rainbow, brook, brown and tiger trout, with sightings of ospreys also being reported.

Today I'd like to take the opportunity to show you what's been happening in our forum, and share some recent exciting catches posted by our members.

Fly Fishing for Trout

Johan Frenje, who's been a My Fishing Cape Cod member since December of 2020, made good use of his time after work on March 16th. Johan got out for some fishing and it paid off.

After three hookups,  he landed his first fish of the season - a beautiful rainbow trout caught on a thin-mint bugger.

3yrd year member Johan Frenje caught this trout on March 16th using a thin-mint bugger.

Longtime member Anthony Besaw also loves to tie his own flies, and recently he shared some insight into how he makes his own deadly Empire Shiner, pictured below.

The Empire Shiner has done a good job of fooling native sea run brookies.

The Reliable & Classic Al's Goldfish

There's been a lot of talk in the forum recently about Al's Goldfish. Al's Goldfish had a booth at the RISAA show earlier this month, and many members of MFCC stopped by to pick up 3/4 oz and 1/4 oz  goldfish with single bucktails.

Ken Webber picked up this Al's Goldfish on Saturday March 11th at the RISAA Show.

Mike Marcus posted this interesting history of Al's Goldfish a few days ago inside the forum.

Longtime MFCC member since 2017 Anthony Besaw headed out in the wind on March 14th with a few Al's Goldfish and caught these two beautiful Brook Trout.

A beautiful brookie caught by Anthony Besaw, who's been a member of My Fishing Cape Cod since 2017.

The classic Al's Goldfish has been a hot lure so far this spring for members of MFCC.

Nevertheless, by no means is the Al's Goldfish the only lure that's been working. After all, trout will bite a multitude of different lures and baits.

For example, Ken Webber, who's been a member of MFCC since July of 2021, headed out in his kayak on March 16th and caught this beautiful rainbow on a trusted gold spinner.

New Personal Best Largemouth Bass

The largemouth bass bite is ramping up and our members have been having an absolute blast going after them. In fact, we had quite a few members catch their personal bests this past week! Today we are excited to share them with you.

One of our newest members Grant Stark (who joined in January 2023) moved to the Cape from Arizona this winter and has been learning very quickly just how awesome the Cape is. Grant landed his personal best last week with this 5lb 4oz bass, caught on a X-Rap XR10.

Nice work Grant and welcome to MFCC!

Back on March 9th, after almost giving up for the day, Mike Dixon (member since November 2021) decided to make one last cast with a jerk bait and boy did it pay off!

On that last cast of the day Mike ended up catching the second biggest bass of his life, a 7lb 10oz, 22.5 inch brute of a largemouth bass.

In Conclusion

In close I want to thank our friendly community of anglers for their contributions to the forum so far this 2023 season. There's already been a wide array of subject matter and reports being shared, and spring has just started!
